Honoring all women, with special recognition for our:
Green Earth Poets Cafe’s
2018 Woman of The Year
NYC Council Woman Alicka Ampry-Samuel 41st CD.
Alicka Samuel is from Brownsville, Brooklyn, New York. Her experiences in Brownsville have propelled her throughout life. Her passion and empathy for others guided her in obtaining a degree in psychology from North Carolina A&T State University. She then returned home to address poverty and homelessness within the City of New York.
Alicka went on to work as a Child Protective Specialist with the NYC Administration for Children Services. Understanding the linkages between the law and how it affects the disadvantaged, Alicka decided to study law at CUNY School of Law and graduated with a Juris Doctor in 2005. CUNY’s motto “Law in the Service of Human Need” aligned well with Alicka’s world views. She worked in various capacities with city and state legislators and as a community organizer in Brownsville before moving to Ghana, West Africa to work in the US Embassy; managing a Human Rights and Community Development portfolio. Alicka returned home to serve as Chief of Staff for State Assemblywoman Latrice Walker who represents her beloved Brownsville.
Alicka most recently worked as a Senior Advisor within the New York City Housing Authority- Community Engagement & Partnerships Division.
For Alicka, sincere altruism and empathy for others have driven her to serve in a number of capacities as a former District Leader in the 55th Assembly District, volunteering through her sorority Delta Sigma Theta and as a trustee at Wayside Community Baptist Church. Alicka is married to Kalonji Samuel, a currently serving United States Diplomat, whom she met in college. They are proud parents of Kamau, an aspiring 11-year old artist.
